Cristina Mariani

Creativity has always been presented both in my scientific studies (molecular biology; PhD in Math and Science  Education) and teacher work.

The worlds of science and teaching involves creative acts, inferences, logic leaps, metaphors, innovation and creativity. Through my works I bring messages that not only express myself, but also interpret a flow from Heaven to Earth; they are artistic expressions to harmonize a place, to vibrate together with those who observe them. The painting is associated with a title and sometimes a text that amplifies and explains its "message”, like a healing mantra . From this, my site is Cristina Mariani Universi Arte, or Uni Versi Arte. "Universes" are the Quantum Worlds-Words, they are our boundless Self in relationship with the Whole, the search for the One, for the true Self that is inside and outside of us. I try to build a connection between Heaven and  Earth by painting , interpreting a flow, vibrations, intuitions.

About me

The art critic professor Gianluigi Guarnieri, Valeggio “Arte in corte", on 18th September 2022.

"The refined informality of Cristina Mariani brings together a kaleidoscope of colors that she projects into the infinite space of creativity".

The art critic Maria Palladino, Castell'Arquato, on 19th February 2023.

"Two works that I want to define in a certain way of transition. It is interesting because C.M. is a scientist woman who is primarily interested in everything concerning communication between worlds.

We see these medieval landscapes in a certain way nuanced and diluted in color which, with these veins, give us the idea of a passage, an emotional, psychic and sensitive passage from one dimension to another."

The art critic Professor Gianluigi Guarnieri, Cremona on 26th March 2023.

"Suspended between informality and dream, as if blossomed by a pleasant sudden breeze, here are the visionary transfigurations of Cristina Mariani."

The art critic Alessandro Togni, Tione di Trento on 5th April 2023.

"I am very interested in this tone of visual elaboration, how much more than a formal description there are details that summarize the evocations, that is the desire to give body through a figuration that is quite recognizable anyway, because it is the river la Sarca and of all that is consequential in this emotional journey that the author makes, but which more than anything else induce this evocation of the feeling that is unleashed when these visions are produced. The atmosphere it creates is all that drives a perception rather than a vision."

In Cristina Mariani's works there is a language that is not fully codified, is not yet understood, has not been put into vocabulary, but somehow suggests instead some interpretation of what is captured, recalling that Einstein underlined that the imagination comes before knowledge.

Atmospheres, thoughts, and evocations: these are the three entities that belong to our authoress.

In Cristina Mariani's painting it is as if this gesture, these overlapping, overlapping signs give a perception of three-dimensionality because they are transparent glasses facing each other, and they are just like the water of the Sarca, water that is not never the same.

Panta Rei. For this reason the signs and colors, colors in particular, summarize this evocative intensity inspired by the forces of nature.

Roberto Settin and Giordano Gianpaolo, Visions of art, Expo Marostica 2023: "An explosion of colours."

"Interesting explosion of color with the synthesis of details. Clean picture. "

Prof. Franco Canova, art and literary and historical critic, May 2023, says:

"In Cristina Mariani's canvases, as well as in her poems that sometimes accompany them, we feel the spiritual inspiration and the original imagination resulting from a genuine, fresh, happy creativity. The artist knows exactly what to paint and how to do it, gifted with an expert and watchful eye that perceives how to grasp elusive (or hidden) aspects of the landscape and the world around her.

The titles of some of his works are indicative of a careful look at what surrounds us and which goes as far as to understand the universe: Mother Earth, Earth and Gold, Crossing the Worlds, Cosmic Breath, Immensity. Other titles offer us keys to a spiritual and reflective interpretation: Solitary Music, Symphony of the Soul, Sacred Dance, Silence, Listen to the Breath. In other paintings, where the color emerges with enveloping streaks, you have the impression of sensing the message that comes from the composition: Colors, Sunset in Winter, Symphony of vibrations, Breezes of re-generation, Absence which is essence.

The author's artistic world ranges from a sketchy, stylized figurative (Benares, Varanasi, Madre, Musica solitaria) to the abstract and informal forms of the well-known 20th-century artistic avant-garde schools revisited with an autonomous perception of chromatism. The result is undoubtedly an original spatiality that offers multiple contents, the place of representations in which red roses and other flowers, swans, cities and castles in the background, boats on the shore, even motorcycles rampant in the void can blossom among innumerable chromatic effects. In the spirals and tongues made of colors, in the waves of Lake Garda, which push the viewer's gaze beyond the painting, towards the 'beyond' that we would like to see, observe (Traversata dei Mondi, Sinfonia dell'Anima, Return At home…).

The colors - oils, acrylics, tempera, sprays, watercolors, mainly - are distributed with sure brushstrokes, by an expert hand that takes care of the details which, remaining nuanced, are tenderly arranged with an air of ecstatic suspension. The expertise in choosing the various techniques always corresponds to the results she wants to obtain. Cristina Mariani is a true artist, who knows how to restore sincere emotions, some deep and intimate (Mother, The kiss, Red roses for me, Graffi); others impressionistic (Rose that loosens thorns, Princess, Manifestations); still others that can be shared (The journey, Solitary music, Homecoming). In the painting with strong contrasting and symptomatic hues of Light and Shadows, we perceive a dynamic thrust in the color forms that weigh oxymoronic (light and dark) on the blue body of water moved by the wind: a message that reaches the viewer of a turbulence that is not only atmospheric but interior, state of mind and soul.

In the Sacred Dance, the swirl of brushstrokes splashed together with spray and oil on laminated sheet connote around the two figures linked in the dance the explosion of feelings of devotion, which intertwine with the human ones, of a couple dancing in the middle of (love) passions. Here the pictorial rendering is truly kaleidoscopic, as Guarneri writes; who adds: "Suspended between informality and dream, as if blossomed by a pleasant sudden breeze, here are the visionary transfigurations of Cristina Mariani."

I would add that the three-dimensional effects that the artist seeks in many of his paintings manage to make what he represents perceptible, his personal language legible, a style of undoubted personality that is opening up and establishing itself in the multifaceted and multiple world of contemporary Italian art. Debts or citations of past artists? I think they are the echoes of Emilio Vedova, Alberto Burri, Alain Taylor (tachisme), Jackson Pollock (of Art in movement), the most important references to which the artistic production of Cristina Mariani can be approached, even if we will certainly have to expect further creative innovations from her and, I believe, they will soon arrive.
